History

2017: MedinCell announces initial grant from Gates Foundation to support the development of a long-acting contraceptive using their proprietary BEPO drug delivery technology. Product later refined to be a subcutaneous "gel pump" that would slowly release a progestin. 
2019: Developer announces additional funding to support pre-clinical and clinical activities through Phase I
2022: MedinCell announces intent to initiate Ph I trial in 2023 & receipt of $4M in additional funding from the Gates Foundation
2024: Pipeline reports in 2024 indicates that the trial did not initiate as planned - product is still in pre-clinical. Status states "CMC activities ongoing for initiation of clinical phase 1 activities in 2025"
