Uniplant was extensively evaluated, largely in low- and middle-income contexts, throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, including large-scale clinical research. Development appears to have stalled in the mid-2000s, and commentary articles published by Population Council indicate that a lack of funding to bring the method to market may have contributed.
