History
2010: Ape studies suggest that a UPA-loaded intrauterine device could induce endometrial atrophy and amenorrhea
2013: Phase I research initiated by HRA Pharma. Following HRA Pharma's acquisition by Perrigo in 2022, their contraceptive development portfolio was closed.
2021: Results from a Ph I PK/PD proof-of-concept study of a copper-bearing, UPA-releasing IUD, led by Population Council, suggest that the device is well tolerated and acceptable, and may prevent the copper-induced increase in bleeding commonly associated with copper IUDs
