History
Uterine-shaped IUDs, made of either stainless steel (1st generation) or copper (2nd generation) and sometimes containing the NSAID indomethacin, have been in use in China since as early as 1990. These devices, largely manufactured by the Chongqing Medical Equipment Factory Company, have been widely evaluated in non-clinical and clinical contexts and included in reviews of IUD use in China.
