History
2010: HLL Lifecare receives Gates Grand Challenges grant to develop a copper IUD coated in biodegradable polymers
2015: HLL Lifecare publishes results of pre-clinical in vitro evaluation of coated copper IUD, determining that the coating could control the release of copper ions during the initial months of use
2019: Researchers at INIFTA, Chile, publish results of pre-clinical in vitro evaluation of a modified coated copper IUD (now coated in non-biodegradable polymerized carvacrol), determining that their design could also control the release of copper ions.
