History

In 2005, ReProtect received NIH funding for further development of Duet device design and manufacturing., Prior research had been conducted on the acceptability of the Duet as a menstrual collection device. Ph III trial results indicated non-inferiority to SRA-approved spermicide + barrier device combination. Development as a combination contraceptive appears to have largely ceased following the conclusion of the trial, though BufferGel alone continued to be evaluated for STI prevention through the early 2010s.
