The Mishing ethnic group, originating from Assam, India, have traditionally used the dry root powder of Persicaria hydropiper as a contraceptive. Evaluation of p. hydropiper for potential biomedical applications was first conducted in 2006. In 2022, a collective of academic researchers reported the results of phytochemical analysis and mouse studies to further define the plant's potential impact on fertility.
