History
2023: Evaluation conducted by Washington University and Vanderbilt University determines that SLO3, a sperm-specific potassium channel, plays a key role in sperm hyperpolarization (and mutations of SLO3 may be associated with male infertility. A test SLO3 inhibiting compound, VU0546110, and similar, more potent inhibitors are proposed as having contraceptive potential.
2025: Test compound VU6032735 displays low observed clearance, a long half-life, and high volume of distribution in female mice, with sustained high tissue exposure in the oviduct, indicating its potential as a non-hormonal contraceptive.
