History

S-Nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine, a nitric oxide donor known to be both stable and antimicrobial, has been tested as a materials additive beginning in around 2013, largely in academic contexts. Prototypes of SNAP-impregnated latex condoms were first developed by the University of Georgia, with initial publication in 2024.
