Barriers that limit access to and voluntary uptake of acceptable contraceptive methods hampers the ambitious FP 2020 agenda to reach 120 million additional women with modern methods. To accelerate the pipeline of innovative contraceptive technologies to address these barriers, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has issued a call for concepts from qualified organizations to conduct preliminary feasibility studies for development of novel contraceptive delivery systems. The target product profile would be for single-use, self-administration intradermally with a duration of action of six months. Submissions of concepts that use microneedle patch technology to deliver contraceptive hormones are of primary interest.
