Commissioner Hamburg Steps Down from FDA

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Margaret A. Hamburg has announced her plans to step down at the end of March 2015.

Dr. Hamburg’s six-year tenure at the FDA included the controversial decision to approve the emergency contraceptive Plan B One-Step® for use without a prescription by teenage girls.

Dr. Stephen Ostroff will serve as Acting Commissioner after Dr. Hamburg’s departure.

An announcement is posted on the FDA website here.
