Does the use of hormonal contraception significantly increase the risk of HIV acquisition? To women at risk of HIV, this is a critically important question.
Two new review articles, published in January 2015, look at this important issue. The first, a meta-analysis of individual-participant data from 18 studies, was published in the journal PLOS One by Dr. Charles Morrison and colleagues. The second, a systematic review of 22 published studies, was published in the journal Contraception by Dr. Chelsea Polis and colleagues.
