An update to the 2014 systematic review of epidemiological evidence on hormonal contraception and HIV acquisition risk was presented at the 2016 International AIDS Conference. This review, which included five additional observational studies, was published on August 5, 2016 ahead of print in the journal, AIDS. The World Health Organization announced in a statement that it will convene an expert review group later this year to examine the updated review and assess its current guidance on the use of hormonal contraception by women at risk of HIV acquisition.
