Contraline, Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on male contraception, has exercised a license option for Nestorone®/Testosterone Transdermal Gel (NES/T), a novel hormonal male contraceptive developed by the Population Council. NES/T is the first male contraceptive to reach late-stage clinical development.

NES/T combines nestorone, a synthetic progestin, with testosterone in a daily transdermal gel. It works by suppressing sperm production while maintaining healthy testosterone levels. The product has completed Phase 2b trials and is preparing for Phase 3, with support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Male Contraceptive Initiative.

Contraline’s acquisition of the license option positions the company to potentially commercialize NES/T globally, complementing its existing pipeline, including the ADAM™ hydrogel, a non-hormonal, implantable male contraceptive. This move underscores Contraline’s commitment to expanding contraceptive options for men and addressing the global need for safe, effective, and reversible male birth control.
